What are carbon credits?

Carbon credits are certificates that represent one metric ton of carbon dioxide reduced or removed from the atmosphere. These credits are issued by a registry only after the climate impact has been realized, independently verified and confirmed as real and measurable.

Credit issuance and impact

To issue credits on all major registries, projects must meet third-party standards that evaluate: Additionality (project wouldn’t occur without credit revenue), Measurability and verification of greenhouse gas impacts, Permanence (protection against future reversal), No double counting (ensuring exclusive use of claims), and Sustainable development co-benefits such as improved biodiversity, air quality, and local health outcomes.

Credit retirement

Proceeds from the purchase of carbon credits support ongoing project activities, and when you make a purchase we record your contribution in the official carbon registry by retiring the credits under your name or your beneficiary’s name. Retiring a credit means it’s taken out of circulation forever—so its climate benefit is fully yours and can’t be claimed by anyone else.
